INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

Reports to: Senior Producer/ Director of Outreach

Location: Remote/Virtual

Commitment: 10-12 hours per week, Duration of internship flexible 

Compensation: $600 monthly stipend

ABOUT NEEDLE + FRAME

Needle + Frame is a filmmaking and arts collective that builds solidarity, unites communities, and inspires courageous action towards positive social transformation. We are a 501c(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to community-driven arts projects. 

Our work elevates the lived experiences, practices, wisdom, and agency of the people at the leading edge of social change. Everyone should have the artistic tools to share their stories with dignity, impact, and confidence. We build this belief into every aspect of our creative planning processes—from the initial stages of creative development until long after final credits roll.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Media & Outreach Intern will collaborate closely with two Senior Producers. As a small and collaborative organization, we are launching several projects related to film distribution and production, community building, and themes around social innovation and justice. 

 

Our team will work with you at the beginning of the internship to determine the specific details and shared agreements around your key responsibilities based on your interests, skills, and desired areas of development within the following areas: 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Digital Marketing, Communications, and Community Relations Management

  • Support digital marketing and communications activities, helping to develop content that is engaging, thought-provoking, inclusive, and audience-centered. Responsibilities for digital content support may include tasks related to copywriting, social media strategy research and development, website maintenance, and graphic design.
     

  • Research relevant data and information about different projects/initiatives and develop content that effectively communicates their impact

Arts + Action Community Hosting and Curation

Support the development of a monthly virtual Arts & Action community we are piloting through: 
 

  • Researching films, poetry, music, photography and other artwork relevant to social innovation and justice
     

  • Developing an inclusive outreach plan to potential participants and/or guest speakers at impact organizations, filmmakers, artists, student groups, elected officials, and other grassroots organizations 
     

  • Maintaining and updating event schedule, including coordinating logistics with special guests
     

  • Developing and designing engagement and campaign materials that align with event themes, such as polls, statistics, discussion prompts, invitations, newsletters

Participatory Film Production Support

  • In collaboration with Senior Producer, help organize and track video and other media files from one of our participatory film projects—a project collaborating with five women coffee producers in Costa Rica
     

  • Collaborate with N&F leadership and other community partners to develop and execute impact and distribution campaigns
     

  • Research creative distribution opportunities, including online distributors, film festivals, and other film and community groups

  • You're passionate about storytelling and other forms of artistic expression such as poetry, performance, and music
     

  • You have knowledge of and/or a strong desire to learn digital marketing and communications tools. Our team frequently uses Wix, Flodesk, Canva, ClickUp, Google Drive, Instagram, and Facebook. 
     

  • Spanish language skills are a plus

POSITION DETAILS

  • 10-12 hours per week with somewhat flexible schedule
     

  • This is a fully virtual, work-from-home position
     

  • Some travel possible (COVID-safety permitting, not required) 
     

  • $600 USD monthly stipend
     

  • Flexible working hours (with consideration of team/ workflow) 
     

  • We will gladly work with external organizations for university credit or volunteer hour requirements

  • Working Conditions: Most of the work in this position is performed remotely to adhere with public health guidance. Successful candidates must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time
